The Rann of Kutch is a seasonally marshy saline clay desert located in the Thar Desert biogeographic province in the state of Gujarat situated 8km away from village Kharaghoda located in the Surendranagar District of northwestern India and the Sind province of Pakistan. The name "Rann" comes from the Hindi word ran meaning "salt marsh". The Hindi word is derived from Sanskrit / Vedic word iriṇa attested in the Rigveda and Mahbhrata.

Nothing. It is a long, dry desert. Occasionally it appears in the news when there is an earthquake.And of course the Kachhi traders are famous the world over.Kachhi mondylenders are notirious in fleecing the borrowers.

Gujarat is famous for its large herds of wild asses as it is for its lions. The Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary, can be from Dasada, 93 kms from Ahmedabad and on an important route. It has salt plains, caused by flooding of the Rann by sea, river and rain water; punctuated by highlands called beyts, above the monsoon flood mark where scrub flora and grasslands offer a refuge to wildlife.

Flamingoes in main Rann and Wils Ass in little Rann.For main Rann one has to go via Bhuj whereas for Little Rann from Viramgam (for wild ass sanctuary)
