Once upon a time, twin boys were conceived.

Weeks passed and the twins developed. As their awareness grew, they laughed for joy: "Isn't it great that we were conceived? Isn't it great to be alive? "

Together the twins explored their worlds. When they found their mother's cord that gave them life, they sang for joy! "How great our mother's love is, that she shares her own life with us!"

As weeks stretched into months, the twins noticed how much each was changing.

"What does it mean?" one asked.

"It means our stay in this world is drawing to an end." said the other.

"But I don't want to go," said one. "I want to stay here always."

"We have no choice," said the other. "But maybe there is life after birth."

"But how can there be?" responded one. "We will shed ...more

..Edward is dying. He lay in the hospital bed, motionless. He knew his end is near. He felt the passing in his body his soul wilting and fading. His physical and spiritual mortality has relinquish him. The years of toil has return to reclaim its due penance. Edward begins to close his eyes. His still-conscious mind embarked on a reflection; a spiritual cogitation of his life journey - a tale of romance and tears.
. Edwards life chronicle begins in the forlorn countryside of Latvia. His home village is an image of calm and tranquil. He was then age 26. He was happy, for he was engaged to be married. His love, Agnes, was only 16. He refers to her as his sweet sixteen. Agnes was the most beautiful of all the maidens in the village. Despite her youthful age, she displays maturity in mind and character well beyond her years, which is a sharp contrast to Edward. His physical appearance sadly complement that of his lover. He is short, and far too skinny. His face is craggy and gaunt; his de ...more

The Sweetest Love Story-

John Blanchard stood up from the bench, straightened his Army uniform, and studied the crowd of people making their way through Grand Central Station. He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn't, the girl with the rose. His interest in her had begun thirteen months before in a Florida library. Taking a book off the shelf he found himself intrigued, not with the words of the book, but with the notes penciled in the margin. The soft handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and insightful mind. In the front of the book, he discovered the previous owner's name, Miss Hollis Maynell. With time and effort he located her address. She lived in New York City. He wrote her a letter introducing himself and inviting her to correspond.

The next day he was shipped overseas for service in World War II. During the next year and one month the two grew to know each other through the mail. Each letter was a seed falling on a fertile heart. A romance ...more

"THE WINDOW"

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain the fluids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed next to the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the outside world. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, the man had said. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm amid flowers ...more

Actually all Somerset Maugham's and O'Henry's short stories are my favourite.
But the one which tugged my heartstrings the most is O'Henry's Gift of the Magi.

All stories connected with the cunning fox. Remember that story when the fox praised the crow and said what a lovely voice you have and the crow started to sing and the meat piece that it was carrying in its beak fell down which was picked by the fox?

At last, god appeared to humans and said:

"I have come to assess the situation of my creation.
I want men to form two queues - one queue for
men who dominated their women, and the other
for men who were dominated by their women.
Further, I want all the women to go away so that no
man and woman can talk while the queues are formed"

When God came back after a while, the women are gone
and there are two queues. The queue for the men who
were dominated by their women is 100 miles long.
In the other queue, there is only one man.

God got angry and said, "You men should be ashamed
of yourselves. I created you in my image, and you
are not using what you can. Look at the only
one of my sons who stood up in the other queue
and made me proud. Learn from him!"

The men did not give reply.

"Tell them, my son, how did you manage to be the
only one in this queue?"

The man replied, "I do not know sir! My wife told me
to stand her ...more
