Various zonal Railways place advertisement in the leading Newspapers. The purpose is to seek candidates for post of Assistant Train Driver. They cannot post you directly as a Train Driver. You have to be a diploma holder in Engineering in mechanical or electrical engineering. Different age limit is specified for SC/ST and General Categories. You have to apply for the written as well as oral examination through Railway Recruitment Board. Once you qualify for the written examination, then you are called for oral examination. Thereafter, there is a medical examination. Besides, being physically fit you should not be colorblind. Color blindness is a disqualification because then you would not be able to recognize the colors of the signals. You will thereafter have to undergo training in Zonal Training Institutes of the zonal railways, which may extend up to 2 years.
