Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways (IR). It operates the Konkan Railways, a subsidiary zone of the Indian Railways. Its headquarters is at Belapur in New Bombay. KRC has been making losses since it opened in the 1990s prompting many to consider it merging with its parent company, IR. The company has been earning operating profits for past several years. The company started its full operations of trains on 26 January 1998. Konkan Railway Corporation is in fore front in introducing and implementation of new technologies and concepts in railway scenario of India.
