Aborigine is a general term, and not the name of a specific group of people. It means "from the beginning, or out of the beginning". It refers to the earliest inhabitants of a region as opposed to inhabitants who occupy a region as the result of invasion. It can also refer to original flora and fauna, although this use is rare. The term is sometimes used to refer to the indigenous peoples of Australia, although it could be used to refer to native Americans, or perhaps native peoples in the Philippines and other places. The term is probably considered by more and more to be a less appropriate term; a better term to use might be 'indigenous people'.
