MYSORE: Hogenakkal, till recently a prominent tourist spot along the Cauvery river on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border has turned into a burning issue, worsening the relationship between the two riparian states.
With the Cauvery water dispute still pending before the Supreme Court, the Japan-funded Rs 1,334 crore drinking water project of the Tamil Nadu Government has taken a new turn in the last two months, creating tensions on borders.
The issue took a serious turn when the MPs of Tamil Nadu opposed in Parliament the construction of a bathing place (Sopane katte) at a cost of Rs 5 lakh, maintaining that the Cauvery dispute is pending before the Tribunal.
The Chamrajnagar district administration took up the issue and demanded a joint survey of borders, to which both the Governments agreed.
Two separate teams have been constituted to conduct the joint survey in 2006, from Gundlupet taluk to Byrampadi forest and the second team from Hogenakkal falls. But, the joint survey did ...more

Hogenakkal is a place in Tamil Nadu i think.I dont have much information but d subject of debate is d same decades old Kaveri river water matter.
