During the british rule... sunday was observed as weekly holiday as they used to go to church for prayer on that day... this has been followed in most of the parts od the world... where-ever there was british rule...

It has biblical theme of 6 days work and 7th day of rest ...so Sunday falls as the 7 th day i think..
