In 1886, Wilcox bought 160 acres of land in the countryside to the west of the city at the foothills and the Cahuenga Pass. The name actually came about because Daeida Wilcox went on a trip to the East, and while on the train she met a woman who spoke of her country home in Ohio named "Hollywood." Daeida liked the sound of it and when she returned toSouthern California she gave the name to her and her husband's ranch.Wilcox soon drew up a grid map for a town
