Triglyceride levels are also reduced by exercise, omega-3 fatty acids from fish, flax seed oil, and other sources. Recommendation in the U.S. is that one ingest up to 3 grams a day of such oils. In Europe, the recommendation is for up to 2 grams. However, omega-3 consumption should be balanced with omega-6 fatty acids, in a -6/-3 ratio between 1:1 and 4:1 (i.e., no more than four grams omega-6 for every one of omega-3).

It has been found that residents in Western countries do not ingest sufficient quantity of food with omega-3.

In some cases, fibrates have been used to bring down triglycerides substantially.

Heavy use of alcohol can elevate triglycerides levels.

To lower your triglyceride levels, limit your daily caloric and saturated-fat intakes. Replace saturated fats with "healthy" fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Cut out items that use partially hydrogenated oils (trans fats) and increase your intake of healthy oils such as olive oil or canola oil. Avoid processed flour products such as white bread and white sugar that may increase insulin levels and raise your triglyceride count. Likewise, alcohol raises triglyceride levels, so limit or cut your alcohol intake completely.

Daily exercise will help your body burn calories before it converts the calories to triglycerides. Furthermore, exercise wil ...more

An increased level of triglycerides increases the risks of heart disease and pancreatic diseases. It is very important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly to keep the level of triglycerides and cholesterol in the body.
Here are some suggestions that you can use to reduce the level of triglycerides in your body:

* In all the beverages that you consume, ensure that the sugar is substituted appropriately. If you want to drink milk, ensure that it is skimmed or you can even use non fat dried milk. Avoid cream in coffee and teas can be herbal or plain. But at the end of the day, the best beverage that you can take is water which will not only avoid elevating the triglycerides level but has other benefits as well. Other dairy products like low fat cheese, un-creamed diet cottage cheese and low fat yogurts should be a regular part of your diet.
* When it comes to picking up meat, choose fish it is the least contaminated of all types of meats. Pacific salmon, sardine ...more
