ABCL (Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited) was started in the year 1996 with the intention of being the biggest entertainment company in the India. Barring Tere Mere Sapne which launched the careers of Simran and Arshad Warsi, ABCL was a flop company. Amitabh Bachchan tried to make a comeback in the year 1997 with Mrityudaata released by ABCL but it turned out to be the worst flop of his life. ABCL company reportedly overpaid its staff. The 1996 Miss world Beauty Pageant hosted by ABCL made Amitabh Bachchan poorer by millions. By 1997, ABCL was declared a failed company by the Indian Industries board. Amitabh Bachchan was hugely in debt and the Bombay High Court. Amitabh Bachchan's movies continued to flop one after the other till Kaun Banega Crorepati came his way. ABCL fell on evil days, buried neck deep in debt. The companys cup of woe ran over when his films flopped miserably at the box-office. And he was again written off by the industry.
This time, too, Bachchan bounced back in style. Only, it was his performance on the small screen that revived the Bachchan magic. The host of Kaun Banega Crorepati once again rode the roller coaster of fame. A mellowed Bachchan found himself firmly locked in the hearts of millions of his adoring fans. The show represented a paradigm shift in the history of Indian television. It is still luxuriating in the lap of success.
