A Servlet is a small java program that runs on a webserver that keeps on creating a webpage whose content is likely to change for every tick of a second for example a a web page might be designed to display the current stock price of a stock or scorecard of a cricket match which are likely to change as every second passes by it would just update these fields of the webpage from a database. imagine if a servlet is not there on the web server then we need to create the webpage every time the content change i guess no one would like to do this.
so servlet reduce the workload of the webserver.
