Every body has a right to say what they feel or think so long there is no malice behind what they say.. If we consider the context in which Ashis Nandy has expressed his view, by no stretch of imagination it can be believed he was trying to settle score or his intention was to hurt anybody or create any kind of bitterness to anybody. The resultant political outcry has been caused by interested parties like media and certain political class or groups who stand to gain personally when an opinion gets converted to controversy. In fact it is high time a law is passed to make intolerance a crime. It is this mounting intolerance to others view that makes cops arrest innocent people for their harmless posting on a social media, or for government to arrest cartoonist for their satirical caricaturization of political events or groups to demand banning of books, movies etc. Very often an issue would have passed off or got debated with in a close group of people without affecting anyone. His statement needs to be amplified further. The fact is that most of us, if given a chance, indulge in corruption.
Whoever enjoys power, privileges, does that. This is true for any community. Whatever be the category of a person might be, he is an Indian after all.
Only corruption is the really secular entity in India. It is beyond any religion, caste, community, region.
There is also a further element to this. Once I was discussing the same thing with some highly placed person. He was quite blatant about it. According to him he is correcting a historical injustice. His words were you guys have been eating the cream for so long. Now is our chance

It was unwarranted since our society is not matured enough to take it atleast for the sake if introspection.
We r still on learning ramp of our constitutions which were not evolved here but borrowed from someone else at prematured stage as independent country.
