We need old-age homes for those old people who don't have any children....., but those who have children, should not be put in old-age home, the children themselves should look after them or if they are not in a position, at least, they should arrange people to look after their parents and from time to time provide emotional, moral and financial support, so that the old parents don't feel uncared-for at all and distressed...............

ITS EVERY CHILD'S DUTY TO CARE FOR THIER OWN PARENTS. (be in any age)
" If that child sends his/her aged parents to old folks home, then he/she would get the same from his/her own child. " - What goes around, comes around.
Read in a spiritual text, its utmost imptance to take good care of our own parents. If anyone fails to do that till their breath, they would be qestioned n punished when judgement comes in the heavenly world. ---- ALL SHD BE GRATEFUL TO OUR PARENTS !
So everyone1 should take GOOD CARE for their parents first, then kids, then spouse. Listen to your inner voice for guidance, it will give the right answer when ur faced with dilemas in life.

OLD AGE HOMES ARE NOT CONFORMAL WITH INDIAN HERITAGE. PARENTS WERE TAKEN CARE BY CHILDREN OR RELATIVES. NOW THAT CONCEPT OF FAMILY IS CURTAILED BY RULES NUCLEAR FAMILY ARE THE TREND IN URBAN AREAS . SOCIAL SECURITY FOR OLD AGE IS NOT GUARANTEED.IT IS A MESS . THE PROBLEM NEED TO BE DICUSSED IN PARLIAMENT. if homes are the destination at retired age then property inheritance laws need to be reformed ..

A real social issue is why the people are ditching their old parents ? They really need help on social front. Therefore, old age homes are effective.

If the children takes care of the old aged parents, it is not needed. But due to some un-avoidable situations and circumstances old aged parents are forced to stay in a place where they get mental satisfaction being part of like minded and aged people .So both good and bad points are there.

I agree that it is a departure from our basic good nature to put someone as close to us as a parent in an old age home. But what about dutiful and caring children who are themselves getting on in years, and are still treated in a cold and cruelly manipulative way by their own elderly parents? Parents who, despite all the care, try to take advantage, are opportunistic, and think nothing of hurting their children by their words and actions? Don't such children deserve to be peaceful after decades of caring leaning towards servitude by putting such unappreciative and uncaring parents in old age homes?

Yes, we do need old age homes specially for families staying in metros or big cities. Enough of theory which defines the ideal situation in which sons or daughters are supposed to take care of their parents. Today, in big cities, the ground reality is different. Both husband / wife are working for long hours, at long distances, habit / style of eating out is common, they need more privacy, their children are borne & brought up in modern enviroment so they need help of grand parents not so frequently, the bigger appratments are expensive etc. so the old people are often offered no fixed space. The sum and substance is the lifestyle has changed drastically which is surely not conducive enviroment for old age people. They get frustated frequently if they stay with their sons / daughters because most the time they are being used as stop gap grand parents. Rest all the time they are expected to do small house hold jobs, keep watch on maids servants, receive couriers, go stand in big Q's for ...more
