The Government say over 5 million but in reality the true number is probably much greater. There are now more people suffering from Aids/HIV virus in India than in any other country in the world. Previously it was South Africa.

India has the second largest number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world.

The official count, India has 5.13 million HIV/AIDS patients, the U.N.'s estimate is up to 8.5 million.
