Shantaram is a famous novel written by Gregory David Roberts. It is based on the story of the author himself who was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment in Australia for armed robberies. But he had escaped from an extremely high security prison in Australia in July 1980. He became Australias most wanted criminals for the next ten years. He spent these ten years in Mumbai. The novel basically traces his story in Mumbai. The epic tale traces the slums and the five star hotels of Mumbai, romance, underworld mechanics, Bollywood and other things that were associated with Mumbai at that period.
