Why Chinese made food and drugs are being sold in India under label made in India. Is it due to Indias better brand image than China?

Double purpose, Sirji !
More profit and cheating the local law.
Beside, yes Indian brands are more reliable.

The "Made In India" label is done in order to avoid Import duties. And when the tax-men come u can always say (if u deal in Made in India products) that ur supplier went broke & this is why u r not able to pay tax. If u deal w/ foreign goods, u r expected to have a certain percent of cash reserves in form of minimum bank balance yourself which should cover your taxes.
And u need an IE code to deal w/ foreign goods. To get an IE code, u need a TIN number and to get a TIN number, u need a PAN card, and a registered company. To transact w/ local goods, u can cut thru all those formalities. U still need a TIN & a PAN for local goods, but enforcement isin't as severe as it is more state govt (versus Central in terms of foreign goods).
