Saranyu and her shadow Chhaya, Ragyi, Prabha are the wives of the SunGod. His children are Vaivasvata Manu ( the 7th Manu), Yama, Yami , and the twins Ashwins all through Saranya, Savarni Manu (8th Manu), Shani ( Planet saturn) and two daughters Tapti and Vishti from Chaaya, a son Ravanta from Ragyi, and lastly through Kunti Karna.

Chhaya means shadow or shade. Chhaya is also personified as the goddess of shadow, the consort of Surya, the Hindu sun god. She is the shadow-image or reflection of Saranyu (Sanjna), the first wife of Surya. Chhaya was born from the shadow of Sanjna and replaced Sanjna in her house, after the latter abandoned her husband.
Chhaya is usually described as the mother of Shani, the god of the planet Saturn and a feared graha; goddess Tapti, the personification of river Tapti and a son Savarni Manu, who is destined to be the next and eighth Manu (progenitor of mankind) - the ruler of the next Manvantara period.

In the beginning, the Sun was a dazzling orb of light, so dazzling in fact that his wife, Sanjana, could not stand his heat and went to complain to her father about this. Her father was Vishwakarma, the divine sculptor. He caught hold of Sun, placed him on his wheel and smoothened his jagged, fiery edges, which dimmed Suns radiance somewhat. Vishwakarma then gathered up the remnants of the fiery energy of Suns outer edges and fashioned the Sudarshan Chakra, the discus-weapon of Vishnu. Many scholars take this Sudarshan Chakra to mean the ecliptic plane.

Sun and Sanjana had three children: Manu, Yama and Yami.
The daughter, Yami, later became the Yamuna River on Earth.

Yama is the god of death,

while Manu is the father of mankind.

Human beings are called Manuj because they have descended from Manu. ...more

SURYA OR SUN had three queens; Saranyu (also called Saraniya, Saranya, Sanjna, or Sangya) (the Orion Belt), Ragyi, and Prabha. Saranyu was the mother of Vaivasvata Manu or Sraddhadeva Manu (the seventh, i.e. present Manu) and the twins Yama (the Lord of Death) and his sister Yami. She also bore him the twins known as the Ashvins, divine horsemen and physicians to the Devas. Saranyu, being unable to bear the extreme radiance of Surya, created a superficial entity from her shadow called Chhaya and instructed her to act as Surya's wife in her absence. Chhaya mothered two sons Savarni Manu (the eighth, i.e. next Manu) and Shani (the planet Saturn), and two daughters Tapti and Vishti.[3] He also has a son, Revanta, or Raivata, by Ragyi.
