ECR stands for EMIGRATION CHECK REQUIRED. When non is put before ECR, it is ECR not required. There are various categories of people who get this non-ECR. If you read the passport form, you may know more about it.

When we leave our contry , Emigration check is the important thing required by the Passport authorities in airport ' depature ' section.
If anybody leave country frquently Non - ECR category helps, it means No Emgration check required.
We will get it from passport office with request. They will quote EMIGRATION CHECK NOT REQUIRED ( ECNR ) in Emigration status ( 2nd page of passport ) or put a stamp as required.
It is very much useful for frequent travellers to abroad.
