The longest single river in Australia is the Murray River, with a total length of about 2375km (see the related link).

Sometimes, the Darling River is regarded as the longest, as there are numerous tributaries in the north which make up the start of the Darling - but these are separate rivers.

The Darling and Murray Rivers are two quite separate rivers, but together with their numerous tributaries, they form the largest river system in Australia, referred to as the Murray-Darling system.
