Buddhism originated in India and then spread to other countires like Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Indo-China and other South East Asian countries. It also moved northwards into the Himalayan kingdoms (Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal), Tibet, Mongolia and other parts of Central Asia, and also into China, Korea and Japan.
But due to the arrival of the Muslims/Arabs in India in the 11th century Buddhism was virtually wiped out in the country. But this teaching continued to flourish in the other countries.
