Rick Nelson (he dropped the y in 1961) was born Eric Hilliard Nelson in New Jersey, USA, in 1940. He died in a plane crash in Texas, USA, on New Year's Eve in 1985 aged 45. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin sang "My Rifle, My Pony and Me" in the 1959 John Wayne movie "Rio Bravo".
