Deepavali ...it is victory of Good Over Evil..

it is the time when Monster Narakasur ..was killed by Sri Krishna.. by Vaman Avtar..
It is also the day during Ramayan, Sri Ram Kills Ravan..
Also.. in Mahabarat... Pandava's Complete 14 years of Living in Forest, n 1 year of Living hiding their Identity..! And Bhim Kills Bakasur..!
So.. it is Victory of Good.. it is festival of Light... so Crackers make light n sound.. which will terrify evil things. ..thats y

There is no history absolutely. Win of right over wrong and good over evil have to be exhibited to the world of people so that people restrain from doing wrong things. Previously they were drumming and displaying the thoughts but as times have changed, drumming could not not be done. Here the business community had stepped in to make money out of this. So Crackers have been brought in.

In MYTHOLOGY. When Devi katyani( Durga ) killed Mahisasur and restored the heaven to the Gods it started first, Thereafter, Devi Durga was worshiped at the Ashram of Medhas Rishi by the King Surath. Thereafter in the Ramayana, Ramchandra worshiped Devi in Saratkaal ( autumn) which is out of time as original Durga adoration was being performed in spring. Now this is going on, AND such puja was performed by Ravana himself for his own death as purohit of Rama.
