If it is from investment perspective, it is better to go in for Gold ETF. (Exchange Traded Fund). Saves you the hassles of security.

Gold in any form has always been a favoured investment among people of every nationality, more so particularly in India where we are so enormously besotted by the yellow metal. Indians have always taken great pride in holding on to physical gold more as a show of wealth than as real investment, though it is the most handy thing that comes to your rescue when we are in dire needs of liquidity for whatever emergency that may arise.
Gold jewellery has its own disadvantages as a form of investment or otherwise. Whatever quanity we buy as jewellery, there is a 'making charge' that is added per gm of gold, which could be range from Rs. 80 to 150, depending on the intricacy of work. Then the purity can never be tested. It is a known fact that, when we go to certain people to buy, we do get cheated which we would never come to know till we have a need to sell it.
