Think what you want to use your laptop for and consider what you might need in future and not just what your current needs are.
How much time will you spend using the laptop on the move - long periods of time regularly, or just the occasional hour or two.
What software will you need to run - now and in the future.
Does the laptop need to be as compact and light as possible, or are a full-size keyboard and built-in features more important.
How fast does the laptop need to be.
How much memory do you need for current and future use.
Does the software you want to run require a video and/or sound card.
What external devices do you want to be able to connect to your laptop? How many ports will you need to do this, and do you know what type you need.
Battery Life.

#1: Operating system

Most PCs sold in office supply and major big box electronics stores come preloaded with Microsofts consumer operating system. Deploying PCs powered by Windows XP Home or Vista Home Basic might not appear problematic, at least at first. In many cases, it may even appear beneficial. Why pay for the more expensive business edition if all you really need to do is write documents, crunch spreadsheets, send and receive e-mail, and use the Internet?

As so many organizations and users have discovered in the real world, the business versions of Microsofts operating system offer many features that may well become necessities down the road. Many a client has found the migration from a workgroup environment to a client-server system complicated by the need to purchase new Windows XP Professional or Vista Business licenses (not too mention the time and cost associated with upgrading each user computer).

Microsofts consumer operating systems typically dont support joini ...more

You should look for a good processor like intel, Ram hard disc and screen's size and the brand. All these things as per your need and convenience. As you are looking to buy a laptop, you must be aware of ntel's special offer?? I recently got to know about it, they are offering on laptops and desktops especially for people in delhi and punjab. Like they are giving broadband connection + 15 page website and 10 business emails free on the purchase of a laptop or desktop. So, use this opportunity and visit this link http://www.metasocial.in/get-smart/

Hi
It depends upon your budget and the kind of work you are looking to do on it.
in 25k you will get most best laptops.
a good hdd space probably above 100 gb and ram is cheap these days even if u get 1 gb you can purchase another 1gb for 1000 rupees.
If you intend to install vista in near future, so try to go in for a laptop with onboard graphic accelerator like ATI Radeon or Nvidia cuz vista is graphic intensive.
