Our ancestors believed in keeping their needs to the barest minimum and, unlike the consumerist Keynesian model of economic growth which lays more stress on public consumption , they believed in saving every anna for a rainy day. They did not hanker after every new model of SUV or Home Theatre or such baubles, although there weren\'t any to talk of in those days. But even if there were, they would have simply scoffed at them and given them a cold shoulder. They drank tumblers-full of pure milk and lassi and ate hearty meals and generally led a care free existence in the midst of pure air and plentiful water. No soft-drinks, no Mcdonalds, no KFC, and no other nonsense of any other type. Today we are money minded bcoz our neighbour owns the latest model of Audi and we too, must have it. And for that, cold cash is needed and a fast buck can and must be made by any means fair or foul. We ourselves are responsible for making ourselves and everyone around us more and more miserable-both ...more
