It is reported in various media at times, with respect to many countries. War games is not just some kind of gaming. What the military forces do in such war games is, they put forth a plan or conceive a plan, based on existing strategies and threat perceptions, put it on the drawing board for inhouse discussions, based on maps and may be real ground models, come with what they call a brain storming session to get all ideas of that military minds, reform or readjust the plans as seen necessary by one's own and that of enemy's improved capbalities or resources.
They then put this to ground, by having two sides to represent the opposing forces and see what is workable, what is workable, identify strengths and weaknessess etc and reformat the plan to make it into a winning formula of a kind.

Sometimes, theses exercises are done alongwith the forces of other countries, either a multidimensional exercise involving army, navy or air forces or sometimes, purely as a single arm exercis ...more

but this has a huge variety of genres following it:
role playing Massively multiplayer OnlineGame[MMORPG]warcraft
FPS first person shooter like MOHAA
etc.
