Roti is baked in tandoor, chapati is baked on hot tawa

Chapati is thinner than roti.
Chapati is oiled while baking.
Mostly I have herd the word chapati in Maharashtra.

Chapathi is the oiled version of Roti. It may have layers or not.

In crude way we call it roti and in sophistic way we call it chapati. During Lunger in Gurudwara the same is called Prasada.
