Gang is always used in negative sense where as group is a assembly of like minded people.

A gang is referred to so, for a gp of people who have joined together for the only purpose of some destructive activity - could be even eve teasing in college, a bank robbery, revolt against a institution or person, setting personal scores with some one of enmity etc .......................................
