Wrong. There is so far no international classification which has been adopted. There have been attempts at unifying the classification system so that it becomes an internationally recognized and reliable standard, but they have all failed.
Many consider that, as it has been the case in other areas (e.g. international accounting standards), hotel classification standards should result from a private and independent initiative. This may be the case of the World Hotel Rating (WHR) project, which notably aims to set international classification standards and rating criteria along the lines of a world star-rating system. It will also establish an information platform on the hotel industry which will be multilingual and multicultural. I think this is not a valid question. The European Hotelstars association which rates hotels , by granting stars ,has only 1 to 5 stars . They may also add a letter 'S' to signify superior. The best rating is *****S
Some of the criteria are that reception, page boy etc be available 24 hrs, internet in the room, cosmetic products available etc.

Regarding 7stars, its just these hotels which are calling themselves 7 stars. This is not standardised. For example if Hotel Decent in Ratlam (rememeber Jab We Met ?) starts calling itself 11 star , nobody can stop them

There are only three hotels in the world that are seven star hotels; the Town House Galleria in Milan was the first, followed by the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. These ratings are merely to create a marketing hype as the highest official ratings are 5 star.
