equity funds is based on joint ventures like a no. of orgs or persons contributing something but debt funds r somewot the dues to be paid for which can be directed to the no. of persons holding the share in a same org

equty funds invest most of the corpus, upto 65% in shares.
debt funds invest majorly in debt securities like cp, cd, tb etc.
