Brain dead is when the Brain stops working i.e. dead while the other organs of the body are still alive but dont work or function as the control of the brain is not their which gives these organs the directions to work/function. This state is referred to as Coma too when the person breathes, pulse is working & is still alive but most organs stop functioning which the surgeons try to revive.
Real dead is when all the organs stop working & the pulse is gone i.e. the person doesnt breathe at all or any organ isnt alive including the Brain & heart!!

A person goes to coma when certian parts of the brain, mainly related to sensational feeling, stops working while certain parts of brain go on working. The blood from the heart also goes to the brain. So, the physically not dead though sense organs don't work and there is no any physical feeling. It is like a person in deep sleep for long time. As we do accept there is mind within the person who is in deep sleep, so the person in coma has mind. But that mind is so sublte that it doesn't show any outside signs accept it keeps the person not dead. As long as as the subtle mind is there in the body, the person is alive. Once the subtle mind leaves the body, the person is dead.
