Why is Google closing shop in China.?

They r closing shop in China not due to censorship issues (Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are more censored than is China) but mainly due to their inability to compete w/ domestic service providers.
Most Chinese, at least 75 percent plus use BAIDU for their search engine and not GOOGLE. Baidu has the capacity to index Chinese characters better than Google and this makes baidu a more preferred choice amogst Chinese doing www search.
Well, before google, even Ebay closed shoppe in China. That was because they couldn't compete against Taobao, which is a China specific auction service.
China DOES monitor its www traffic but so does every other country on earth. With patriot act in the US...police and govt have unlimited access to ur social security card info- which is ur life history since age 16 pretty much.
U should also keep in mind that Taobao, Baidu and several e-commerce solutions are owned by folk who have close links to Chinese govt, so it is highly unlikely that they wo ...more
