The difference is in the purity. 24 carat gold is 99.5 per cent gold which is nt commonly available in India. The highest purity adopted in India is 99.5 per cent gold. With 22 carat and 18 carat gold the purity lessens respectively.

Meanz 18 partz out of 24 iz gold... (az 24 carat gold iz the purest ... )... and the rest basikly iz an alloy(copper basikly...) mixd with it to strenghthen it... peace!!!

24carat means 100% pure gold, 22 carats means 91.6 percent pure gold. Many a times we see 916 kdm marking.
