Deemed university is a status of autonomy granted to high performing institutes and departments of various universities in India.
University is a large and diverse institution of higher learning created to educate for life and for a profession and to grant degrees .

As the name indicates, Deemed Universities are only deemed to be so for the benefit and convenience of an autonomous institution but different from Universities in the process of its formation and certain function. A university is started by the act of parliament , while deemed is not so. A deemed university cannot open up university centres and affiliate other institutions while University has all the privileges.
