Atmaa is the image of parmatmaa means GOD,.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,n our body is a mirror,,,,,,,,,lets consider when a mirror breaks image goes disappear ,,,,,,,,,,,similarly,when our body dies,,,,,,our atma goes to parmatmaa,,,,,,,,,,,,

It is explained in the following verses from the Bhagavad Gita(2.22,2.13,2.20) that the soul passes on to another body at the time of death.
However if the soul lives a life of devotion to the Supreme Lord Krishna and is completely surrendered to His will the Lord promises that the soul will return to His abode in Goloka Vrindavan.(9.34)

Because after some time (that is after 80 or 90 yrs ) body cannot sustain the soul , the soul has to move and try to either get a new body or get salvation
