One of the most critically acclaimed movies in recent times is Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa and the movie is based on a novel written by Mahasweta Devi. The movie is directed by Govind Nihalani and the story revolves around the Naxalbari Movement in Calcutta in the early seventies. It was this movie that gave Jaya Bachchan the foothold in the Indian cinema when she returned after so many years.
