Schizophrenia is a mental illness that causes strange thinking and feelings. Many people who have this illness hear things that do not exist (hallucinations). They have fears and suspicions that do not make sense (paranoia). They might believe in things that are strange and senseless (delusions). They might speak and think in a way that does not make sense to other people. It is hard for them to act normally with other people and to have jobs. The symptoms usually begin in young adults, after the age of 16 years. About 3 to 7 people in every thousand will get schizophrenia during their lives. observed behavior (things people do) and what the person says has happened (reported experiences) help doctors say if a person has the disease.
Life with a schizophrenic spouse will never be easy. It will not be like other couples that you know. But with Love, Patience, Caring, and proper medical help, life will go on in a reasonable fashion.

Because of the disruptive nature of schizophrenia symptoms, normal activities become hard or near impossible for the sufferer. It also drastically affects relationships with family and friends. In some cases , the afflicted person may become suspicious or even hostile towards those he or she is close to...!
