Nomophobia is a latest phobia, a mental feeling of inadequacy that arises out of mobile phone contact. It has been found that people actually panic, have a loss of self esteem or feel down if they are without their mobile phones. So, things like running out of battery, losing out on a phone call, losing the handset etc, are real problems, at least to the nomophobic. Contrary to the expected, men suffer from nomophobia more than women, because men simply cannot live without their phones. And we thought women talked a lot over the phone!

Nomophobia is the fear of being out of mobile phone contact. The term was coined during a study by the UK Post Office who commissioned YouGov, a UK-based research organisation to look at anxieties suffered by mobile phone users. The study found that nearly 53 percent of mobile phone users in Britain tend to be anxious when they "lose their mobile phone, run out of battery or credit, or have no network coverage".
