Nanjangud is a town in Mysore district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is a temple town and is on the banks of the river Kapila (Kabini), and lies at a distance oft wenty three km from the city of Mysore.Nanjangud is famous for Srikanteshwara Temple. Nanjangud is also called as "Dakshina Kashi" (southern Kashi). This city is also famous for a variety of Banana grown in the region, called as Nanjanagoodu rasabale.

Nanjangud is situated on the right bank of the river Kapila or Kabini, one of the tributaries of the Cauvery River. Nanjangud , also known as Garalapuri, is famous because of the huge Nanjundeswara or Srikanteswara temple. The name Nanjunda is explained as Shiva who had partaken Halahala or poison and it is this Nanjunda who became Vishakanta or Shrikanta by digesting it. Thus the deity is called Nanjundeswara and Srikanteshwara.

Nanjangud is famous for Ayurvedic Tooth Powder and other Ayurvedic products.A tooth powder brand made locally called 'Nanjangud Hallupudi' was also very famous all over Karnataka.Nanjangud is also popular for a variety of banana locally known as Nanjangud Rasabale.
