Mira Nair made the world sit up and look at Indian cinema. With her very first feature on the life and times of the street children of Mumbai,Salaam Bombay. Mira made a bid for the Oscars (the film was nominated for Best Foreign Film) and ended up winning the PalmD'or at Cannes. She created a furore with the passionate Kamasutra(1997). With Monsoon Wedding (2001), she popularized the Bollywood style of filmmaking made it a global hit. Some of her famous movies are as follows Vanity Fair (2004), Monsoon Wedding (2001), and Salaam Bombay (1988).
