Kalsarpa Yoga, which is a yoga and not a dosha, is caused when all the planets are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu. If a person has Kalsarpa yoga in his kundali, Rahu and Ketu are said to limit the potential of the chart and not allow other important yogas to take effect. In practice, it is observed that this role of Rahu and Ketu diminishes over time and good things are just delayed for such people.
There are 12 types of Kalsarpa Yoga. They are Anant, Kulika, Vasuki, Shankapal, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Karkotik, Shankhnaad, Paatak, Vishakt & Sheshnag.

the answerf given by mr joseph chacko in first paragraph is correct... but in the second paragraph, he gives 12 types of yoga... it is not correct.. the 12 names are names of great serpents. and not kala sarpa yogas..
kala sarpa yogas are of two types... if rahu is placed in 1st to 6th house, it gives more adverse results..if kethu is place in 1st to 6th house , it is second type of kala sarpa yoga.
anyhow , dosha of kala sarpa yoga can get cancelled if there are raja yogas are present in horoscope..
the evil effects of kala sarpa yoga can be reduced by practising holistic practices for two or three months....write to kumrao99@yahoo.co.in

Kalasarpa Yoga is formed by the situation of all planets within Rahu ( Dragons head ) and Ketu (Dragons Tail).Here Rahu ( Dragons Head ) must be considered as moving in an anti-clockwise direction.
The effects of this combination is general weakness of the birth chart with the good effects of favourable planets curtailed while the bad effects of evil planets are magnified.
The combination works on a lifelong basis however the majority of the effects are felt by 36 years of age and thereafter the person progresses well in life.
