Jahl al-Murakkab or compound ignorance, on the other hand, is by far the real problem. Most of what is posted on the Internet nowadays or what is contained in some pseudo-scholarly books or propounded by so-called Islamic groups or believed by some sincere but misguided 'students of knowledge' is characterized by Jahl al-Murakkab, the disease of those who say: "I do know, I do know, I do know," and they know less than nothing. Of beneficial knowledge they are completely deprived, and mostly possess useless knowledge. This is not actually due to the nature of their material or their source but to the disease in their hearts: their nafs and their ego pushing them into denial and obduracy beyond limits of which they themselves have no idea. Wa'l-'iyadhu biLlah.
