Spark plugs are a "window" into the engine, and can be a valuable diagnostic tool. The spark plug displays the condition inside the combustion chambers of the engine. The experienced tuner can use spark plugs to find the root cause of problems, determine air-fuel ratios, and to increase vehicle performance.

It is a plug which allows a spark to jump across two electrodes in its body. the spark i caused by a collapsing magnetic field in a coil. each cylinder will have its own spark plug.
so called because it 'plugs' into each cylinder and allows the spark to jump across its end parts.
the spark will ignite an air fuel mixture under compression in an engine causing it to burn. the centre electrode has a different polarity to the side electrode (normally negative) when the voltage gets very high from the coil a spark will 'jump' across it . don't handle with bare hands it is very high voltage when live and running
