There have been instances in the past where thieves have taken advantage of the friendliness of the people and offered them food and drinks mixed with sleeping pills or drugs and then robbing them of their belongings. Thus the Railways cautions its passengers not to take food & water from strangers.

They may mix some sedative in the water or in the food stuff to the passengers and rob things from them once they got seduced.

There have been innumerable cases of fellow passengers being drugged by offering food and water and their goods and valuables then stolen. Hence the advisory note from the Railways Safety Commissioner.
