Our lives are projects, works in progress. We set the foundations in childhood and continue to build on the foundation as we progress forward. However, unlike a project, there isnt a contractual completion date or beneficial occupancy date. You occupy your life in every moment. Although life isnt a project with a specified end date, you can still apply basic project management techniques to ensure your progress stays on the critical path.
Each of us has goals and objectives we wish to accomplish, call them lifes projects. These may be personal (learn the piano, travel to Peru) or professional (earn my P.E., be elected to public office). We know about the importance of setting goals, identifying the steps needed to accomplish them, and the need to periodically evaluate our performance towards their accomplishment. In these efforts, the basic project management skills we use in our professional affairs can be useful.
