Politics is the first resort of the scoundrel. He or she does not have to think of anything after that.

What Dr.Johnson told decades ago, still holds good, particularly in the Indian political scene. We may come across a minute minority of polticians who can not be labelled as scoundrels, but the brutal majority , both in the State politics and and at the Centre are perfectly fit for being labelled as scoundrels. We have Jagdish Tylters, Shibu Sorens and the like in plenty, both in state politics and at the Centre, we have street goondas as ministers in many states.

Politics is the refuge for THE MOST COMPETENT rogue.

If u r a galli cricket grade rogue u pickpocket and run begging scams.
If u r a university cricket grade rogue u cheat on taxes and do a small time corruption ring brokerage w/a small govt official (like an SI or a ration shop godown keep)
If u r a ranji tropy grade rogue u run ponzi schemes
If u r a International world cup grade rogue, u join politics.
