Yes.
After all, Telecom is considered the bellwether for Indian liberalization. The onus is always on expansion, increasing subscriber base and better profits. So far the beneficiaries are only the two corporations - Hong Kong based Hutchison Whampoa and UK based Vodafone. Hutchison Whampoa are $ 11.08 Billion richer now and Vodafone, the purely foreign mobile operator, fulfilled its long cherished dream to crack into the fastest growing Indian telecom market making Vodafone Essar the fourth largest operator in India.
Vodafone is an early adopter of technology and is known for its innovative schemes. Though there have been some good customer-centric changes like auto activation of GPRS without any extra charges and many new schemes like 49p local mobile-to-mobile call, 10p SMS charge et al and some state specific schemes in Haryana & Rajasthan clicked too. But as we have seen so far the merger has not borne golden fruits!
Things are predicted to change as early as September 2007. S ...more
