Indian women are shown in a negative light in television serials. Often they are shown as silent suffers, suppressed, repressed, complaining or conniving. Sometimes, they are shown as glamor puss without an iota of intelligence. A one dimensional facet is all what is given to Indian women in serials. Balaji characters are even worse, all the time, they are decked in fancy jewelry and expensive sarees , while blabbering sad dialogues(I wonder if they wear the same heavy outfits to bed as well, considering they are shown in fancy costumes 24/7). All said and done, one should learn from a pioneering serial like Udaan which was shown in late 80s. It was a serial about a woman, who did not conform to the norms, stuck to her dream and became an IPS officer.

Not the way they should be. There is too much of stress being given to the rift or enemity between the saas and bahu which is not as bad as they are portrayed to be. Besides, all those fineries and jewellery the women turn out to be in have not also been realisticaly portrayed. Women are not always dressed so garishly.

NO, in serials they always try to show either the negative aspects of women or the much positive aspects of women, that is not there in real life...womens are not as much negative in real life and not that much positive too.

As far as i am concerned a straightforward " No" as answer. Women are shown as submissiive , ever suffering women and sometimes thery are shown as glamorous characters with no intelligence at all. There were times when women are shown as Police Inspector in DD 1. I forgot the serials but it was a very good serials but nowadays, even thought , there are women serials , but they are not shown in a right perspective. As far as i am concerned, women are intelligent and progressive and can do any work but it is not shown in T.V. and that is a pity.

I am of the opinion that women in the TV serils do'nt represent a typical Indian woman rather women, in both urban & rural areas, try to ape the characters shown on the TV serials.Otherwise said the TV serials(not all) spread a negative culture in the Indian women society which may ruin the future generation.Viewing the women in TV serials in gorgeous outfits and jewellaries a woman in an average family often demands the same, pushing the family into unnecessary & extrvagant expenses. Moreover the domestic quarrels & the vindictive attitudes depicted in the Serials, prompt some innocent women to ape & apply the same in the real life also. Because women are bit sentimental & fond of aping the TV idols Threfore there should be an impartial & strict sensor board to restrict the telecast of such serials. No women are not represented in the right manner in Indian TV serials as they happen to be in their real life.
