Indians are quick to give quotations by White people ? Are there no quotations by Indians that teach good morals ? Do we have only dark secrets and hide it from all ?

Normally it makes sense in quoting from the works in the same language as one is communicating. If it is in English then it makes sense in quoting a white man. If it is in any native language it makes sense in quoting from sources in the same language to emphasis a point. However we Indians when we want to appear intellectual or want to impress others, tend to use quotes in a language different from the one in which we are communicating. For example, when Man Mohan Singh is making a budget speech he very often peppers his speech in English with quotes in Urdu or Punjabi. or if Pranab is presenting the budget in English , he decorates it with quotes from Bengali or Sanskrit. or if Chidambaram is reading the budget he uses quotes from Tamil. When Lalu speaks he invariably uses some quotes in English. I don't think there is anything wrong if people use quotes from sources in the same language as they are communicating. However it sounds pompous when people use quotes from a language ...more
