India never has self confidence. Even in 1971, under "Iron Lady" Indhira Gandhi, India needed the stamp of approval from the USSR to go ahead & attack East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
Indian soldiers are brave, ppl too, but as a nation & in our modern history- we hav never really faced a prospect where we absorb huge amounts of losses. The Chinese have been thru that phase. They faced the Japanese invaders for 20+ brutal years and then also faced off against the UNited Nations in Korea, and later on Vietnam.
So, the Chinese for their parts know what will happen when losses to huge amount of infrastructure and millions of lives start mounting. They have dealt w/ it and overcome it. Whereas we are afraid of those losses itself & what will happen to our country should we encounter them (understandable as we never faced off a mammoth loss in our modern history).
To avoid this scenario, we just make ourselves junior partner to the most powerful nation in the vicinity. And then we ...more
